Shown below are schematic representations of the dynamics of water migration in normal skin and the effects of age and the environment, namely, loss of water and skin surface materials which create the necessity for a true moisturizer. Also shown is the industry response which has been one of lubrication rather than moisturization. Phase II - Normalizer
1. Restores the normal acid pH.
2. Mild natural humectant further removes excess dead cells.
3. Starts water fixation with 2 natural moisturizing factors.
4. Balanced and not removed.
Phase III - Surface Moisturizer
1. Surface lipid layer restored with proper lipids to prevent excessive evaporation to air but does not occlude.
2. Completes water fixation with phospholipid, NMF and amino acid-water clustering. The latter creates a surface film of moisture allowing for later absorbtion of water (Plus IV). Precise amounts of all ingredients is a must.
3. Not removed.
Plus IV - Deep Moisturizer
1. Re-supplies lipids and protein to maintain balance as water is applied.
2. Limits, but does not stop evaporation to air.
3. Balances all ingredients, especially humectant and emollient.
4. Stimulates skin gland function indirectly with skin hydration.
5. Added water made available, skin will now absorb only what is needed.
6. Cleanses.

Normal water loss (sweating) is not impeded. Skin surface lipids are distributed in a patchy fashion. Also on the surface areas are:
